About our cause
Soudley Village Hall offers a vital community space for local residents to come together, connect, and form lifelong friendships. The hall hosts numerous social activities throughout the year such as quizzes, bluebell teas, summer fete, local produce show, bonfire night etc. It also hosts vital services such as the Macmillan Coffee morning for those living with cancer, and as a polling station to vote.
Despite being largely self-sufficient in terms of meeting operating costs, we need to urgently raise funds to replace the railway sleepers of the road bridge that connects the village hall to the village. The latest quotation was for £2,800 which includes labour, materials and VAT. The Parish Council has kindly agreed to cover the VAT, and match any funding that we are able to raise towards the bridge. We therefore need to raise £1,167.
Unless the sleepers are replaced urgently, the bridge is at serious risk of being closed permanently due to safety concerns. This is because the current sleepers were installed almost 50 years ago, which is when the hall was built, and are no longer fit for purpose due to wear and tear.
Should a "bridge closure order" be imposed, the Village Hall would become physically isolated and have no option but to shut down. This would be devastating given that the hall is a lifeline for the village. It is paramount that the Village Hall survives to ensure that it continues doing what it does best – offering an inclusive, warm and welcoming atmosphere where everyone can find social connections and fight isolation.
We thank you for your kind support.
With kind regards
